Graduate School of Life Science and Technology (Doctoral Program) Entrance Examination Guidelines for Foreign Applicants

THE AIM AND PURPOSE

The Doctoral Program of the Graduate School of Life Science and Technology aims to educate and train high-level healthcare professionals who possess advanced knowledge and creative research abilities in the fields of life sciences, pharmacology, and health and medical sciences. These professionals are expected to exhibit compassion and possess scientific and logical thinking abilities,making them leaders in advanced medical specialties who can play a central role in healthcare, all rooted in scientific evidence.

Diploma Policy

Students are awarded the Doctor of Science and Engineering degree upon fulfilling the following criteria, in accordance with the university's educational philosophy, objectives, and educational policies:
  1. Knowledge and Skills: Students have acquired a profound understanding, advanced research capabilities, and technical expertise in the fields of life science, pharmacology, or health and medical sciences, enabling them to lead as researchers, technicians, or healthcare professionals.
  2. Critical Thinking, Judgment, and Expression: Students have developed a high problemsolving ability based on scientific and logical thinking, allowing them to excel as leaders in research, technology, or healthcare.
  3. Initiative and Attitude: Students have cultivated a sense of humanism and ethical values befitting researchers, technicians, or healthcare professionals, along with strong communication and foreign language skills necessary for leadership roles.
  4. Creativity: Students have gained the ability to apply highly advanced theories and technologies in the fields of life science, pharmacology, health and medical sciences, enabling them to creatively innovate and advance knowledge.

Admission Policy

Our Program seeks individuals for admission based on the university's educational philosophy, objectives, and degree-granting policies who possess the following qualities:
  1. Individuals who have acquired a deep understanding, advanced research capabilities, and technical expertise equivalent to a specialized program in the university's master's degree program.
  2. People with the motivation to discover and solve challenges in the fields of life science, pharmacology, or health and medical sciences, and who aspire to lead as researchers, technicians, or healthcare professionals.
  3. Individuals with excellent communication skills and strong ethical values that qualify them to be leaders as researchers, technicians, or healthcare professionals, capable of taking responsible actions.
  4. Those who have the will and ambition to creatively advance highly advanced theories and skills in the fields of life science, pharmacology, health and medical sciences, and wish to excel as researchers, technicians, or healthcare professionals on an international scale."

※1 Successful applicants will be notified by an email on the day of the announcement of their acceptance.
※2 Acceptance procedures must be completed by the deadline in accordance with the admission procedure guidelines for successful applicants.

Eligibility

(1) Those who have obtained a master's degree or its equivalent in a foreign country.
or
(2) Those who are deemed to have the same or better academic ability as those who have completed a master's degree at the university. In this case, the preliminary screening of application eligibility is required by the University. Further information for the preliminary screening is available on the University's website (https://www.isu.ac.jp).

※ All applicants must have discussed and obtained approval in advance by meeting with the prospective faculty member
※ Foreign nationals must have the required visas or a status of residence that does not interfere with admission by March 22, 2024, in addition to the qualifications listed above.

Application Documents

All application documents must be submitted together to the University Planning Division Office within the application period. Application documents must be submitted by post or by email attached as a single pdf file.
Application Form A photograph (4 cm x 3 cm) taken within the last three months must be attached.
Bank Transfer Contact Slip
(Certificate of payment)
The application fee is 35,000 JPY. The application fee must be
paid by bank transfer and the remittance slip must be included
with the application.
Certificate of eligibility Certificate(s) of (Expected) Graduation and/or Certificate(s) of
(Expected) Completion Issued by the Last University/Graduate
School (Certificate Proving Degree Obtained).
Academic Transcript Issued by the Last University/Graduate School.
Certificate of English
Qualifications
TOEFL iBT® score more than 50 or equivalent score.
Agreement letter Please provide an agreement letter from your supervisor in our
Graduate School.
Research Plan Give your objectives and plan for your graduate studies.
Photocopy of Passport Submit a copy of the page showing the passport number, name, photograph, and validity period, and any other pages that are relevant.
A written pledge Please provide a written pledge for the ONLINE examination if
you prefer.

※ ONLINE examination is also available. Please provide a written pledge for ONLINE examination if you prefer.

Procedure for Withdrawal of Acceptance

Applicants: For those who have passed the entrance examination and completed the admission procedure.
Submission: Notification of Withdrawal of Acceptance form.
Submission Deadline: Friday, March 29, 2024, no later than 12:00 noon.
Refunds: The fees paid at the time of admission is refundable (excluding the admission fee).
