Professor / Doctor of Engineering
Profile
I was born in Japan and I received my B.S. in Physical Therapy from Fuji Rehabilitation Institute (Chiba, Japan), M.S. and Ph.D from Shinshu University (Nagano, Japan). Before starting my academic career in 2014, I worked as a physical therapist and manager in geriatric hospitals, long-term care health facilities, and private residential home in Japan. I have been working as a faculty member in a vocational school since 2014, in the School corporation management office since 2016, as a lecturer in the School of Pharmacy since 2017, and as an associate dean in the Faculty of Health Sciences and an associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy since 2019. I have also been concurrently serving as a faculty member in the Graduate School since 2018, supervising physical therapists in the Master's program; I have also been concurrently serving as a visiting professor in UNISA (Indonesia) since 2020.
Major research areas
One of the most important tasks of a physical therapist is to make a physical therapy diagnosis. For this purpose, tests and measurements are important. Recently, due to the rapid development of technology, there is an increasing need to master both the traditional tests and measurements as well as those that incorporate new engineering methods. Future physical therapists may expect that the introduction of technology will transform physical therapy tests and measurements with advanced technology, but the high cost and limited use in certain environments make it necessary to learn both traditional and new technologies. These problems must be solved within a decade as these issues are likely to change dramatically over the next decade.
In order to prepare the next generation of physical therapist for these changes, we must improve the quality of physical therapy diagnosis. Therefore, I chose to specialize in Clinical Electrophysiology and Affective Engineering, and am conducting basic and clinical research on the identification of functional disorders in patients.
